JVP Portland Break the Bonds Shabbat Dinner & Storytelling Workshop

📍NE Portland. RSVP for Location.

Join Jewish Voice for Peace Portland for a warm and engaging Shabbat dinner and storytelling event. Over challah and candlelight we’ll connect with ourselves and others about the lies we’ve been fed about Israel, and about the kind of Jewishness we want to build together. We’ll explore our rejection of oppression, and shift the narrative toward a Jewishness that is accountable to collective liberation. We’re focused on the campaign to divest from Israel Bonds, but all Jews are welcome, even if their divestment stories relate to other institutions! For those who are ready, we’ll also collect some stories on video to help share our truth more widely.

This is the perfect event for those who are struggling after the election and looking for both community and connection to a broader purpose. When we reject Zionism, we also move toward a Jewishness that sees our safety as fundamentally wrapped up in the safety, justice, and liberation of all people.

This event will be a potluck dinner. We will provide a main dish, challah, and wine, and we invite guests to bring a side - ideally something vegetarian, vegan, and/or gluten-free so that all can enjoy!

Please RSVP here. There is limited capacity, so we hope you’ll let us know soon if you’d like to join.

ACCESS INFO

😷 Masking - Please bring a KN94/N95 mask! We will not have extras available. Assume we will mask except when actively snacking and drinking, though we can discuss exceptions to this rule depending on the size of the group.

🚗 Transportation - Location is off of NE Sandy, but Street Parking is readily available on nearby cross streets. Accessible by bus via Line 12 on Sandy, with a 2-block walk from the bus stop.

🚶 Mobility + Movement - The event will be stationary, in a private home. This house is not ADA-compliant or wheelchair-accessible, as visitors must climb 3 steps to enter. You can sit, stand, stretch, or walk around as you need to, though space will be tight depending on attendance. We will have chairs available for all guests. Though close to Sandy, the house sits on peaceful neighborhood streets in case attendees need to walk in the fresh air.

👶🏼 Children - We are not able to provide childcare, but children are welcome.

🌧️ Weather - The event will be held indoors. This will most likely be a chilly November evening, though the location may get warm from body heat in a cozy home.

🚽 Restrooms - There is one restroom accessible to guests. It is gender inclusive.

🥨 Food - We will provide a primary protein dish, challah, and wine for the Kiddush. Please plan to bring other dishes to share, with a preference for dishes that are vegetarian, vegan, and/or gluten free, so that they can be enjoyed by others!

👃 Scent - Attendees are asked to join fragrance-free. Please respect the health needs of some of our guests!
